SHIRLEY HERTLER
Shirley Anne Theresa (Konyha) Hertler, 83, of Dillonvale passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born at home on January 20, 1942. When the doctor came back to check on her and her mother, he recorded Shirley’s birth as the 29th. Shirley is the youngest of three children born to Minnie (Allen) and Leslie Konyha and was Catholic by faith. During her early life she cradled many nieces and nephews as they came into her life, picked berries, and skated with her friends. She graduated from St. John’s High Central High School in 1960. Shirley followed her interest in math and went on to work for Half Dollar Bank and First National Bank in Wheeling, WV. On May 10th, 1964, Shirley married Michael (Fred) Hertler. They settled down on the dairy farm, joined the Wheeling Roamers Motorcycle Club, chased cows, and raised three children: Shelly, Christine, and Frederick Hertler. To them she taught her strong belief in God, life lessons, and skills. These included gardening, sewing, canning, baking, reading and a zest for living life to its fullest. In the midst of “teaching” she also became a homeroom mother, making sure her children knew to give the better treat to others “because you can have another one at home.’ Shirley created clothes and costumes, made meals and memories, instilled the love for outdoors and all that nature had to offer. Shirley never had idle hands, as she was knitting for family members, baking favorites to fill bellies, and taking pictures to leave a history for family. If her hands were still, that meant her mind was swirling, solving puzzles and riddles, or reading to all hours of the night. As her children grew, so did her endeavors such as running pit stop at motorcycle races, rocking grandchildren to sleep, hiking’ through Manhattan, planting flowers, and going to Jamboree in the Hills.
Waiting for Shirley in heaven are her daughter Christine (Hertler) Clouse, parents, Minnie (Allen) and Leslie Konyha, sister, Theresa Perez, and brother Andrew Konyha as well as several nieces and nephews, and in laws Vivian and Jack Hetler.
Those remaining here to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael (Fred) Hertler, daughter Shelly Hertler, son-in-law Mark Clouse and grandson Zachary, son Frederick and wife Lisa, grandsons; Frederick (Fiancee Bre), Jackson, Finnick and Hunter. Sister-in-law Sally Culler nieces Tracy Heath, Terri Emery, Alberta Brown, Linda Friend, and many great nieces and nephews as well as friend and care provider Terri Craig.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 1-6 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Bridgeport, Ohio 43912. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 11 am at the funeral home with Fr. Thomas Marut officiating. Burial to follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer research foundation of your choice or a local animal shelter, in memory of Shirley.
