MARY ANN CONAWAY

Mary Ann Palkovich Conaway, born on October 16, 1931, in Bellaire, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in the town she cherished throughout her life, at the age of 94.

Mary Ann dedicated her professional life to serving as a secretary for the Bellaire City School District, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues for her unwavering commitment and steadfast work ethic. Her career stood as a testament to her dedication to her community and her desire to support the education system that shaped the lives of so many young individuals.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Mary Ann was a devoted member of the Methodist church in Bellaire, where she found joy and purpose as a choir member and Sunday School teacher. Her voice added warmth to church services, and her teachings left an indelible mark on those she guided and inspired.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Paul Palkovich; her beloved husband, Jack Conaway Sr.; her son, Jack Conaway Jr.; her granddaughter, Vicki Conaway-Gibbons; and her son-in-law, Jeff Schrum. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving children, Randy Conaway, Gary (Teri) Conaway, Valerie Griffin, Dennis (Vicki) Conaway, Sherri Schrum, and Wendy (Bob) Newhart. Mary Ann’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Amy (Clint) Schaefer, Jackie (Brian) Bumgardner, Steven (Bonnie) Conaway, Erin (James) West, Bobby Mansfield, Lori (Jim) Dietrich, Brianna Newhart (Rue Kirby) , Robert (Maclaine) Newhart, Alyssa Newhart, and Nicole Gleason. She also leaves behind numerous great-grand- children, great-great- grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by her kindness and love.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Bellaire Chapel, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A service to celebrate Mary Ann’s life will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11 AM at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home, Bellaire Chapel with Brenda Dunlap presiding. Following the service, Mary Ann will be laid to rest at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the Bellaire United Methodist Church or Amedisys Hospice, honoring Mary Ann’s love for her community and her compassionate spirit.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to her family, and her unwavering faith. Her presence brought light and comfort to all who knew her, and her memory will forever remain a blessing to those she leaves behind.
