DONALD GIFFIN
Donald F. Giffin, 87, of Patterson Hill Road, Bellaire, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2026, knowing that his family was thankful to be a part of his wonderful, blessed life. He spent his last days in Shadyside Care Center where he was loved and treated like family. We are grateful for their loving care.
Born on March 21, 1939, in Bellaire, Ohio, he was a son of the late Richard K. and Frances Wise Giffin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Doris M. Dunlap.
Donald spent his professional career as a supervisor with American Electric Power, where he was known for his leadership and commitment to excellence. Beyond his professional work, he was devoted to his faith and community, serving as a member of the Rock Hill Presbyterian Church. Additionally, he became a gentleman farmer, working his beloved and beautiful Hillcrest Farm. In his later years, he devoted himself to being a loving caregiver to his wife of 67 years, Paula Sabinski Giffin.
His involvement in fraternal and civic organizations was extensive. As a past master of the Bellaire Masonic Lodge and a member of the Scottish Rite-Valley of Steubenville, Donald exemplified the values of brotherhood and integrity. He also held the esteemed position of past Potentate at the Osiris Shrine Wheeling chapter, where he made many long-lasting friendships and diligently helped raise funds in various ways for Shriners Hospitals and local children in need.
Furthermore, he was actively engaged in several other organizations, including the Bellaire Eagles #371, and served as a Board Member of the Rock Hill Presbyterian Cemetery Association. His efforts in local conservation were notable during his tenure as Supervisor of the Belmont County Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. Giffin also took on the role of Director of the Royal Order of Jesters #13, and he was a Charter Member of the Great Stone Viaduct Society, showcasing his dedication to preserving the heritage of his beloved community.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Ann Sabinski Giffin, children: Susan Giffin Helms and her husband David of Tiltonsville and Donnie Giffin and his wife Lisa Hoyo Giffin of St. Clairsville, grandchildren: Joel Giffin, Sydney Helms and Spencer Helms, one brother, Kenneth (Marsha) Giffin of Bellaire, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Penny and Dan Frizzi of Bellaire.
Don was a loving husband, father and proud “Poppy” (grandfather). He was a Presbyterian by faith. His family will remember him for his sincere and beautiful prayers of grace, praise, and thanksgiving before meals.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 2-8 p.m. at the Bauknecht- Altmeyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 37th Street, Bellaire, Ohio 43906 and again on Tuesday April 14, 2026 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Elder Jeff Nelson as celebrant. Interment will immediately follow in Rock Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
