JOYCE MINDER

Joyce passed away peacefully at Ryan House, Hospice Of The Valley, Phoenix, Arizona after a short illness.

She is survived by her sister, Joan Roy Hazard, of Fruta, Colorado; nieces, Jessica Hazard Hanley (David) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Jaclyn Hazard, Hunter of Vero Beach, Florida; and great niece, Josephine Hanley.

She is proceded in death by her parents, John W. “Duke” Roy and Kathryn “Kay” Witchey Roy of Bellaire, Ohio; sons-in- law, John “Jack” Hazard and James Hunter; and special dog friends, Raider and Leo.

Growing up in Bellaire, Ohio, Joyce had many friends and was very busy. She played on the Lakers summer basketball team. Miss Blacks Dancing School was every Saturday for years. She attained Worthy Advisor, highest honor in the Rainbow Girls, a part of the Masons. She became an officer in almost every club in high school. In her senior year, she was very successful as the editor of the school newspaper, “The Talisman”, was on the yearbook staff, the “Bejuan”, a member of the National Honor Society, and was voted the 1963 Bellaire Relays Track Queen. She graduated from Bellaire High School in 1963.

Joyce learned her hairstyling skills from her mom at her in-home shop, “Kay’s Beauty Shop”. After some some time at the OU branch,, she attended and graduated from Wheeling Beauty College. Then, she was off to the big city, Columbus, then she went out west to make Phoenix her home. There, she developed a large clientele as a hairstylist, working both independently and as part owner in a shop. She was even a rep for the Redken Company. As President of the Mider Corporation, she delved into the wholesale nursery business, real estate, and even had a partnership in a restaurant, “Cheez Pleez”.

She was in a pool league and spent some of her spare time with her team members. She was also an excellent artist and seamstress.
