Martin Palian Jr.

It is with deep sadness that we announce Martin Thomas Palian, Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026.

He was born on February 28, 1938, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Martin Thomas Palian, Sr. and Vincentia “Vinnie” Horvath Palian.

Martin was a proud 1956 graduate of Bellaire High School and dedicated more than 37 years of service as a press operator to International Harvester (Shadyside Stamping) later Navistar. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and quiet dedication to his family and community.

An avid sports fan, Martin remained a lifelong and unwavering supporter of the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, cheering them on faithfully since 1950. His love of sports extended far beyond fandom. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a devoted member of the Bellaire Touchdown Club and proudly served on the “field chain gang” for the Bellaire Big Reds Football Team. He also coached youth basketball, was a basketball referee, played on numerous softball teams, and for many years, coached various youth baseball teams throughout Belmont County. His commitment to local sports and to mentoring young athletes left a lasting impact on many families.

Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Delilah Byrd Palian; and his sisters, Kathryn Palian Bannan, Ann Palian Skvarka, and Mary Ellen Palian Stein.

He is survived by his loving children: Melissa Rataiczak (John), Felicia Porter (Loren), and Calvin Palian (Lynsey). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Granddaughters – Ashley Rataiczak Davis (Les) and Spencer Porter. Grandsons – Mitchell Rataiczak, Landon Porter, and Fisher, Anderson, Sawyer, and Maguire Palian, along with many nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you goes to those who provided such loving care, dedication, and support during Martin’s final months: his nephew Eddie Stein; nieces Jo Ellen Stein Taylor and Becky Skvarka Page; cousin Chuck Newman; and many others whose kindness and compassion meant so much to him and to our family.

Our family also expresses heartfelt gratitude to the caring and attentive staff of Shadyside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the compassionate team at Valley Hospice for the comfort, dignity, and kindness they provided.

Martin will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of family, and his devotion to sports. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
