John Sidon Jr.
John Michael Sidon, Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at Ruby Memorial Hospital. Born on July 15, 1945, in Wheeling, West Virginia, he lived a rich full and vibrant life of 80 years.
After graduating from St. John Central High School, where he excelled at football, John dedicated his life to his family and spent much of his career as a steelworker at Ormet Corporation before enjoying a well-deserved retirement. His commitment to his family was matched only by his passion for the cosmos, politics, and the game of golf, where he not only played, but also shared his love for the sport as a former golf coach at St. John Central High School. In addition to golf, John found joy in playing chess and poker, activities that reflected his strategic mind and competitive spirit. He will be remembered for his wisdom, questioning nature, and unwavering sense of humor.
A man of community, John was a member of the Elks club in Martins Ferry, Ohio, and an active member of the Sons of Italy in Bellaire, Ohio. He also contributed his time and efforts as a union committee member at Ormet.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine (Bushilla) and John Michael Sidon, Sr. and his sister, Sylvia Mack (Sidon). He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Linda Kay Sidon (Heslop), and his loving daughters, Stacey (Eric) Griffiths and Stephanie (Erik) Gast. He leaves behind three cherished grand- children, Kaitlin, Kaylie, and Aidan, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him warmly.
Family and friends will be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home in Bellaire, OH on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Fr. Dan Heusel officiating. Interment will follow at the Belmont County Memorial Park Cemetery.
