Gwen Vannelle, 99, of Shadyside, Ohio, departed this life on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling, West Virginia.
She was born March 1, 1927 in Bellaire, Ohio a daughter of the late Brim and Emily (Archibald) Jones.
Gwen was a dedicated real estate agent, a profession she loved dearly and pursued with great passion throughout her life. Her enthusiasm for real estate extended beyond her career, as she had a keen eye for interior design. In fact, even up until a month before her passing, she was known to redesign spaces, demonstrating her enduring spirit and strong will.
Gwen had a deep love for her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished above all else. Her affection also extended to her beloved cat, Ginger, who was a constant companion. A devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, Gwen’s sporting enthusiasm was infectious to those around her.
Known for her sweet tooth, she particularly enjoyed indulging in Cheryl’s Cookies and pancakes. Her cooking talents were renowned amongst family and friends, as she was celebrated for making the best apple pies and pepperoni rolls.
Gwen was a member of the Lincoln Avenue United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James V. Vannelle in 1972.
She is survived by her loving children: Kathy Perigloisi of Shadyside, Ohio, Patti Lubich of Shadyside, Ohio, Daniel (Elizabeth) Vannelle of Durham, North Carolina, and Jim (Caroline) Vannelle of Lake Norman, North Carolina; grandchildren: Lindsay, Andy, Nick, and Vincent.
Family and friends are to be received at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Home 3900 Central Avenue on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio.
