Joseph Lee Bartrug, age 68 of Adena, passed away July 16, 2026. He was born June 30, 1958, in Bellaire, Ohio, to parents Gary Lemoyne and Donna Mareta (Conrad) Bartrug.
Joe graduated from Buckeye West High School in 1976 and later attended Belmont Tech. He was a member of the Adena United Methodist Church. Joe was a coal miner by trade and retired from the Enlow Mine.
Joe preferred quiet solitude. He enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Joe also spent much of his time with his metal detector searching for Native American arrowheads and other artifacts. He also liked to paint and work on model cars.
Joe is survived by his mother Donna Bartrug, his daughter Tina Marie Phillips, his grandchildren: Xian, Jace, and Brianna, and a great-grandchild. His memory will also be cherished by his siblings: Gary (JoAnn) Bartrug, Steven (Tracy) Bartrug, and Lori (Ron Hamilton) Kerkuta, along with generations of loving nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his father Gary Bartrug and his nephew Jeremy Bartrug.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Borkoski Funeral Home in Adena, with funeral services officiated by Pastor Maggie Hodor at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.
