Larry Darrah, age 81, of Powhatan Point, OH, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2026, at WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Glen Dale, WV.
He was born February 8, 1945, in Martins Ferry, OH, a son of the late Ralph and Ila Mae Schnegg Darrah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Widman Colbert (W.C.) Darrah, and a brother, Thomas L. Darrah.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Burton Darrah; daughter, Erin Butte, and granddaughter, Autumn Butte, both of Somerset, KY; a niece, Tammy Darrah Wenberg; a stepson, five step grandchildren, and several step great grandchildren.
He was retired from the medical profession, an Air Force Veteran, and a lifelong member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Powhatan Point, OH, where he also served in various capacities as interim pastor, council member, lay reader, and grief counselor.
Larry was the Wheeling area's first Licensed Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, graduating from the Ohio Valley General Hospital School of Nursing in 1973 as its first male nursing student graduate. He worked at the practice of his colleague and friend, Dr. Judy Romano, M.D., for 22 years. His young patients adored him and called him "Dr. Larry."
He was also an EMT during his military career in Alaska and a certified grief counselor.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 11am until time of service at 1:00 pm at St. John United Church of Christ 51736 German Ridge Road Powhatan Point, OH, with Pastor Terri Reynolds officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in the Church Cemetery.
