Dr. Robert L. Caldwell, 91, of Shadyside, Ohio passed away on August 26, 2026 at his home.
He was born on August 30, 1934, in Shadyside Ohio, son of the late Dr. Robert M. and Goldie (Jeffers) Caldwell.
After graduating as valedictorian from Shadyside High School in 1952, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1958. He retired after practicing for forty-eight years in Bellaire.
He was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Shadyside; a life member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Honor Society, OSU College of Dentistry; a member of the Ohio State University Presidents Club; the American Dental Association; The Ohio Dental Association; Eastern Ohio Dental Association; OSU Belmont County Alumni Club; Shadyside High School Alumni Association, and the Shadyside Alumni Band.
He was a former Board Member of the former Farmers and Merchants Bank and the former Buckeye Savings Bank.
He was an avid Ohio State football fan and held season tickets for many years. He also loved spending time at the family cottage on the Muskingum River.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James Caldwell.
Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Shirley (Bishop) Caldwell, son Dr. Robert Lee Caldwell; daughter Leslie (Timothy) O'Grady; two grandchildren Hannah (Justus) Bjurstrom and Isaac Caldwell, two great- granddaughters, Felicity and Sofia Bjurstrom, sister-in- law Dr. Patricia Caldwell; and brother-in-law Earl (Janet) Bishop. Also surviving are two stepsons and three step-great-grand children, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends will be received on Friday August 28, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at the Bauknecht Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, 3900 Central Avenue, Shadyside. Visitation will resume at the Funeral Home on Saturday August 29, 2026 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
Shadyside High School will establish a fund in Dr. Caldwell's honor; donations may be made to the Shadyside High School Band c/o Shadyside High School. Donations can be made by going to TMCFunding.com.
