Mildred “Midge” Matesick, born on June 22, 1930, in Key, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the age of 96, in Powhatan Point, Ohio.
Midge was a beloved member of the Powhatan community, known for her warmth, kindness, and dedication. She spent 30 years as a bus driver for the Switzerland of Ohio School District.
A devoted member of the Powhatan United Methodist Church, Midge found joy and solace in her faith. Her hands were never idle, as she was known for her homemade quilts and beautiful needlework, each piece lovingly crafted and cherished by those fortunate enough to receive them.
Midge was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Nicholas “Nick” Matesick, as well as her siblings: Lane “Lyle” Crozier, Galen “Jiggs” Crozier, James “Jim” Crozier, Margaret “Dutch” Baratie Holiday, and Georgia “Georgy” Freeman.
She leaves behind a loving family who will miss her dearly, including her children Marsha (Gary) Baker, Terry “Tracey” Matesick of Powhatan Point, OH, and Rosie Matesick of St. Clairsville, OH; her cherished grandchildren Lance Baker and Lisa, Angie Henry and Greg, Rob Matesick and Kaleigh, Kayla DiMarzio and Gus; great and great-great grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Her special friends and neighbors, Joyce and Mike Smith, held a dear place in her heart, and she was grateful for their enduring friendship.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Midge’s life at Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes, located at 186 Main St, Powhatan Point, OH 43942. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM. Her nephew, Tom Crozier, will officiate the service. Following the service, Midge will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Powhatan Cemetery.
Midge’s legacy of love, kindness, and craftsmanship will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever held in the hearts of those she touched.
