Mary Louise Christmyer, nee Belfield, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 4, 2026. Mary was born in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, on October 29, 1928. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Harold Stephen Christmyer, her parents, John and Loretta Belfield, and three siblings: The Reverend John Belfield, Virginia Agnes Belfield, and Rita Belfield Whitlatch. She is survived by her children, Thomas Christmyer (Luann, deceased), Jeannie Christmyer Perse (Robert Sukys), Robert Christmyer (Karen), John Christmyer (Jill), and Judy Christmyer Guzik (Martin Reagan). Mary also leaves behind 11 grandchildren: George Demico, Angela Christmyer Svadba (Jim), James Demico, Brian Perse (Katy), Jeremy Perse (Courtney), Eric Christmyer (Megan), Joshua Guzik, Stephen Christmyer (Shelbie), Amanda Christmyer Mathis (Quentin), Jessica Christmyer Brower (William), and Daniel Christmyer (Mariah), in addition to 21 great-grandchildren: Layla Christmyer, Poppy Christmyer, Ever Mathis, Harlow Mathis, Holden Brower, Cameron Brower, Lily Perse, Tyler Perse, Charlie Perse, Evelyn Perse, Asher Perse, Isla Perse, Cooper Perse, Camden Perse, Luke Svadba, Max Svadba, Cage Christmyer, Bryce Christmyer, Jude Christmyer, Opal Christmyer, and Joshua Bittner. Mary and Harold loved them all without reserve. Christmas gatherings were lively and fun, with Harold looking at Mary in the midst of the chaos and exclaiming, "Mary, look what WE DID!" Mary was a telephone operator for Ohio Bell in Martins Ferry, Ohio, when she met and married Harold Christmyer. They had five children together and moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1962. In 1968, Mary returned to work at Ohio Bell in Cleveland, quickly rising through the ranks to the position of Group Chief Operator. Mary was highly respected by her Ohio Bell colleagues, many of whom became close and enduring friends. Mary enjoyed socializing with the "Lubrizol Gang," traveling with Harold and her siblings, and baking delicious pies, especially her legendary apple cobbler, for which she won first prize at potlucks! She learned the art of cross-stitching and created many masterpieces, the most treasured being portraits of her grandchildren. We will miss her dearly.
The Family will receive friends Saturday Oct. 10 from 1:00 - 1:30 Pm at St. Gabriel Church, 9925 Johnnycake Ridge Rd in Concord followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM. Private Burial at All Souls Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Reserve Care Hospice.
