Adena Lions preparing for minstrel
LET THE fun begin.
The Adena Lions are busy preparing to perform its 60th annual minstrel show on April 16 and 17 at the Buckeye West Elementary School.
Dustin Kinsey will once again serve as music director for the production with the theme of “Tube Time” and featuring songs from classic television shows.
Songs will include The Muppet Show, Green Acres, Adams Family, Three’s company, Facts of Life, I Love Lucy, The Flintstones, Cheers, The Jeffersons, Dukes of Hazard and there will be flashbacks to shows such as Sanford & Son, Ed Sullivan, Sonny and Cher, Hee Haw, Match Game and much more.
John Parkinson, who will serves as interlocutor, has appeared in every show. William Walker, another longtime performer, has chalked more than 50 appearances in the minstrel while Michael Zonkoski can claim at least 40 performance appearances.
Every show presented by the Lions has been held at the school. The school district is currently contemplating the closure of the school.
In addition to the show itself, the Buckeye Local High School Jazz Band and the Buckeye West Elementary Honors Choir will perform.
Each show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children and high school students.

SHE MAKES a difference.
Jill Foster Fellows of Thornville, Ohio, a graduate of the former Cadiz High School, was one of 13 teachers honored March 17during the 11th annual “You Made a Difference” awards ceremony.
The ceremony took place at the Career and Technology Education Centers of Licking County. Sponsored by Coughlin Automotive Group, the event honored one teacher from every Licking County School district.
Teachers were nominated by students who submit an essay on why their teacher made a difference in their lives and helped them. The superintendents of each districtchose the winner. Each teacher selected received a golden apple and $500.
Jill teaches in the Lakewood SchoolDistrict. Sheis married to Mitch Fellows and has two children Ed and Jenny. She is the daughter of Ed and Betty Foster of Cadiz.
Congratulations to Jill as she continues to make a difference in the lives of children.

THE ANNUAL Lucas D. Sedgmer Memorial Scholarship Sportsman’s Feast will be held Saturday, April 10 at the New Athens Fire Hall. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and food service will commence at 4 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Tickets or additional information may be obtained by calling 740-968-4419 or 740-491-1371. Tickets are also available at the door.
Several raffles will be held for guns, other hunting and fishing equipment, a 47-inch flat screen television, Deerasic Classic tickets, and much more. In addition, a live auction will be held at 7 p.m. A silent auction is also scheduled.
All proceeds from the feast benefits the scholarship program. Each year one OVAC wrestler is awarded a scholarship and several graduates of Harrison Central High School also are presented scholarships in Lucas’ memory.

THE JEWETT Volunteer Fire Department will hold a ham dinner on Sunday, April 11 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Cost for meals will be $8 for adults and $4 for children. Each dinner will include vegetables, salad, bread, dessert and a beverage.

A BENEFIT fundraiser for Greg Albright will be held Saturday, April 24 at 4 p.m. at the Scio United Methodist Church.
Proceeds from the benefit will help Greg in meeting expenses related to advanced stage 3 esophageal cancer.
The event will include a dinner, a silent auction, live auction and a karaoke contest.

The Hope Players are seeking addition chorus members to participate in the upcoming production of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Tim Rice musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” to be presented April 30, May 1 and 2 at Harrison Hopedale Elementary School.
Hope Players Executive Director Andrew Pelegreen III said students ages seven to 15 are needed to sing in the children’s chorus and additional adults are needed to play their teachers.
The additional chorus members only have to commit to four weeks of their time on Monday and Wednesday when rehearsals are held from 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Those wishing to become members of the chorus should report to the April 5, 6 p.m. rehearsal.
