Car & Bike Cruise in 4 Freedom on tap today

THE HOPEDALE America Legion is holding a Car & Bike Cruise in 4 Freedom today at the Legion Hall.

Registration is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The show is from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing and in addition, prizes will be awarded every 15 minutes. Music by DJ Tommy D and a dance will be held at the conclusion of the event. Food will be available throughout the entire event.

Organizers have also planned for a cornhole tournament.

All proceeds will go to the Harrison County Military Support Group and will serve to benefit soldiers overseas. If you need more information, contact Durk Harkins at 740-491-1593.

THE HARRISON County Military Support Group is also currently holding its 2010 Quilt Raffle as part of its fundraising activities to support their work.

The drawing will be held on Oct. 19 during the Halloween/Thanksgiving Packing for the county’s service members. The packing, open to the public, will be held at the Cadiz Fire House at 6 p.m.

Tickets are available at $1 each or six for $5. Those wishing to purchase chances on the full/queen quilt should contact any Harrison County Military Support Group member for tickets, or call Terry or Sue Stewart at 740-942-3642. Tickets are also available at myLocal PC Pro at 104 South Main Street, Cadiz.

The support group sends several packages throughout the year to service members. They also welcome any volunteers who would like to lend a hand to pack the boxes which are much anticipated by the recipients. If you would like to help out, either by volunteering your time or providing financial assistance or donations, please contact the Stewarts at the above listed number.

THE ADENA Fire Ladies Auxiliary will hold its annual fall card party on Oct. 14, at the fire house. Doors are scheduled to open at 5:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. Prepaid reservations, $6 each, may be made by calling Bev Lengyel , 740-546- 3567 or Christine Thompson, 740-546-4300.

THE HARRISON County Democrat Central and Executive Committee will hold its annual Jefferson Jackson Dinner on Oct. 19, at the Wallace Lodge, Sally Buffalo Park, Cadiz. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be obtained by calling Chairperson Sherri VanTassel at 740-546-4706 or 304-479-8098 cellular; or Treasurer Jayne Wallace at 740-942-3378. Tickets are $15 per person.

“This year’s dinner promises to be an active and enthusiastic celebration as we now enter the election cycle,” noted VanTassel. “With early voting already underway, it is even more important for individuals to educate themselves about the opportunities for continued growth that the Democratic Party has to offer.”

Various candidates and public servants will address the gathering this year to dispel the atmosphere of fear and anger that has been generated with misinformation, scare tactics and outright lies.

A silent auction will be available through the dinner and door prizes are being provided by the Lakeland Federated Democrat Women’s Club.

THE CADIZ Business Association will host a “Meet the Candidates” night on Oct. 13 at the North Center of Belmont Technical College in Cadiz.

Candidates running for the 18th Congressional District as well as country level seats have been invited to participate.

According to organizers, the format will allow for a brief statement (no more than five minutes) by each candidate focusing on economic development and/or any plans specifically pertaining to the office they are seeking.

Prepared questions will be given to the candidates, before questions are taken from the audience.

Michael McTeague Assistant Dean and Assistant Professor at Ohio University Eastern will moderate the evening.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. and will end at 8 p.m. with a reception.

HONORING VETERANS. Jim Thompson, representing the Veterans of Foreign Wars, has announced the group will place an arrangement of crosses on the Jewett’s Ruritan Park in honor of deceased service personnel on Veterans’ Day.

The crosses will be placed the evening of Oct. 31 and the memorial will continue Nov. 1-14. A total of 600 markers are available and more than 500 are spoken for.

Anyone wishing to add a loved one’s name should contact Thompson at (740) 946-3585 and provide the individual’s service information and where they were laid to rest.
