U.S. 22 resurfacing ready to commence

RESURFACING WORK is set to begin Monday, May 2, on six miles of U.S. Route 22 around the Cadiz area in Harrison County.

Lloyd MacAdam, District 11 deputy director of the Ohio Department of Transportation, said about 3.5 miles of U.S. 22 will be resurfaced from the four-lane section west toward Piedmont, and the two-lane section of U.S. 22 will be resurfaced east of Cadiz.

Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

ODOT’s contractor for this $1.85 million project is Shelly & Sands Inc., from Zanesville, Ohio, and the completion date is July 31, 2011.

MARK YOUR calendars. On May 7 and 8, Scott United Methodist Church and Harbor of Hope will team up to present “Heaven’s Gates and Hell’s Flames” at Harrison Central High School.

The outreach program is an hour and 15 minute multi-media drama about life’s choices and how they effect our eternity according to organizers.

Cadiz resident, Mark Smith, who is the associate youth pastor at Harbor of Hope, said the drama require 50 actors.

He also said information about each church will be available to those attending the event along with videos and t-shirts.

A door-to-door campaign will be conducted on May 2 to remind citizens of the program.

Smith and Rev. Richard Hasley of the Scott Church are looking forward to the event.

“It has never been in Cadiz and we know it will touch hearts and lives,” Smith said.

A MOTHER’S Day Chicken Barbecue will be held May 8, 11 a.m., at the Moorefield Township Volunteer Fire Department in Piedmont. Each meal is available at a cost of $8.50 and includes half chicken, potato, green beans, roll and beverage.

Homemade pie is also available at $1.50 a slice. Dine-in or carry-out meals are available. Call 740-968-4603 to have your carry-out meals available.

BEGINNING AT 3 p.m. today, the Harrison East Spring Carnival will be held at the school’s gymnasium in Hopedale. Kids of all ages are encouraged to come out for food, games and lots of prizes. DJ & Door prizes. Parents come out and help with set-up and clean-up and/or help work a game station.

GOLD STAR Kennel, located on Industrial Park Road in Cadiz, will host the St. Clairsville Ohio Kennel Club Dog Match on May 7. The public is encouraged to watch mixed and purebreds perform in obedience and purebreds in conformation and junior handling.

Food will be available throughout the day along with a 50/50 raffle and chances on gift baskets.

THE FOLKS at the Jewett Volunteer Fire Department are hosting a Mother’s Day Chicken Barbecue Dinner on Sunday, May 8, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Adult dinners are $8.

A NEW and unique fund raiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life is being hosted by the Funky Monkey.

A Fitness Fundraiser will be held at Amanda’s Dance Academy on Sunday May from 2-4 p.m.

Participation are invited to participate in an afternoon of Zumba, Dance Fitness, Pilates, and Cardio and Abs taught by five local instructors.

THE JUNIOR Auxiliary of The Cadiz American Legion Post 34 will be manning a concession at during the May 14 Thunder on the Hill ATV Rally on Foxes Bottom Road, Cadiz.

The event begin at 8 a.m. at the auxiliary members will be offering such items as hamburger, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pepperoni rolls, pop and water.

This event doubles as a fundraiser for the Junior Auxiliary and a great time for all who attend. The ride winds through trails that cover more than 600 acres of land.

THE CADIZ Community Yard Sale has been set for June 3 and 4, according to officials of the sponsoring Cadiz Business Association.

The 13th annual event will include sales by families, businesses and organizations of the Cadiz area. Everyone is encouraged to join in this giant community-wide event by holding yard sales, porch sales or garage sales on the same weekend.

Merchants of the community are being encouraged to hold sidewalk sales on the same weekend, and organizations are invited to schedule fund-raisers, such as bake sales, car washes, etc.

The Cadiz Business Association is promoting the yard sale event.

A registration fee of $3 for yard sale participants ensures their locations, and sale information will be included in advertising and on flyers distributed the weekend of the sale.

Yard sales may be held on either, or both, of the schedule days Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4. Registration forms are available at the Cadiz-Harrison County Visitors Center, Ormes Hardware, Coffy’s, Shurfast, and DiAngelo’s.
