25 Belmont County experiences to embrace in 2025

As the holiday season’s hustle and bustle fades into cherished memories, we turn our focus to the promise of a new year–a time to reflect, recharge, and look ahead with anticipation.

Belmont County is brimming with excitement for another year of memorable experiences, beloved traditions, and new adventures. So, here are 25 things I’m looking forward to experiencing in 2025:

1. Winter Hike

Beat the winter blues and join the Captina Conservancy in February to view the beautiful ice sculptures and evergreen hemlocks at Raven Rocks. Bring sturdy shoes and dress in warm layers. The hike goes through the first ravine (approximately a half mile) and continues to the third ravine (approximately 3 miles total round-trip) leaving you with stunning views at every angle.

2. Great Stone Viaduct Winter Lecture Series

Learn about local and regional history at this annual, eight-week lecture series presented by the Great Stone Viaduct Historical Educational Society. Hear from local historians and gather for thought-provoking discussions at the Bellaire Public Library on Wednesday evenings throughout February and March.

3. Romantic Valentine Dates

From coffee to wine and chocolate to fine dining, treat your sweetheart to an unforgettable dining experience at one of the many local favorites in Belmont County. Locally owned options include Main Street Barrel House in Barnesville; The Pike 40 in Morristown; Audrey’s Avenue or Undos West in St. Clairsville; Vino Di Piccin Winery & Tasting House in Lansing; the Fat Apple in Bridgeport; Belmont Brewerks in Martins Ferry and the Roosevelt in Bellaire.

4. Wildflower Walk

Witness nature’s vibrant palette during a guided wildflower walk, hosted by Captina Conservancy to discover the beauty of spring wildflowers with a free, self-guided walk in April.

5. Hunting Bigfoot

Another fun activity to get outside once Spring fever sets in is geocaching! So, embrace the adventure and go on an epic quest to find Bigfoot – themed geocache containers, of course – on the Belmont County Bigfoot GeoTour. From the scenic Ohio River to Dickinson Longhorn cattle ranch, from beautiful parks to historic landmarks, you just never know where you might encounter sasquatch-sized fun as you explore Belmont County.

6. Celebrate Belmont County Heritage

Plan a visit to the Belmont County Heritage Museum, celebrating their 10th anniversary this year. It will open for the season on April 10 and is located in the former sheriff’s residence next to the county courthouse. The museum’s collection tells the story of Belmont County’s history through our communities, traditions, landmarks, industries, businesses, and schools.

7. Patio Dining

When the weather warms up, one of my favorite spots is the cozy deck at Giacinta’s Gelato & Caffè in St. Clairsville. Whether it’s sipping a latte, savoring a delicious panini or catching live entertainment it’s the perfect place to unwind.

8. Belmont County Heritage Trail/Rubberneck Tour

Spend Saturday, April 29th exploring historical sites and Belmont County heritage during the Belmont County Heritage Trail/Rubberneck Tour. Every mile tells a story, and along the route you will discover the importance of transportation, agriculture, industry, and the history that helped shape Belmont County. This self-guided driving tour changes routes each year.

9. Outdoor Yoga

There’s no better way to find your zen than with an outdoor yoga session at Vino di Piccin hosted throughout the summer. Breathe in the fresh air, relax your mind, and unwind your body in this serene setting. After your session, treat yourself to a refreshing sip of wine, completing the perfect balance of relaxation and rejuvenation.
