Marking 20 years as a married couple the simple way

My husband, Mike, and I reached a milestone this past week.

On Thursday, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. It seems like just yesterday that we said our vows at The Barn — an event venue on the outskirts of Moundsville. However, a lot has changed in the intervening years.

To mark the occasion Thursday, we considered taking a day trip and having a fancy dinner. We also thought about attending a concert we had been offered tickets to see. In the end, though, we just spent the day together, traveling around the area and making stops at some of our favorite spots.

One way we celebrated was by purchasing a new TV to replace one that quit working a year or so ago. Now, our living room features a large smart TV that has more functions than I will ever learn to use.

After we made that investment, we had some sushi at Osaka at the Ohio Valley Mall before heading home to try out our new appliance. While Mike set everything up, I got things around the house ready for us to relax, feeding the cats, freshening up the throw pillows on the sofa and setting out some fall decorations.

Then, we sat down and watched a little TV together, made a late night snack to share and just had a generally good time together.

Maybe it wasn’t a traditional anniversary celebration, but it suited us.

Here’s to another 20 years — or even more — together!
