Double Duty

WALT SKAGGS is obviously a man who takes the well-being of his school district very seriously.

Why else would the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District superintendent also opt to serve simultaneously as the high school principal?

Beginning with the 2011-12 calendar year, Skaggs will do just that. Skaggs previously served in the principal’s capacity prior to becoming the St. C. superintendent.

He has performed exceedingly well in each position, reflected by the district experiencing much growth as well as academic and athletic success.

Skaggs now will be charged with doing two challenging jobs concurrently. Knowing the nature of the man, his character, work ethic and vision, we have no doubts Skaggs is up to the task.

The former Shadyside High all-state football player is assuming the extra burden to help reduce operating costs for the district. The move was triggered by the resignation of the elementary school principal. That position will now be filled by Jim Rocchi, the current high school principal, who has opted to make the move to aid the district.

The recasting of personnel will result in a substantial financial savings to St. C. Schools, while not sacrificing academic or operational integrity and effectiveness.

The St. Clairsville-Richland School District is one that is enjoying much better times than its neighbors. That is a product of superb leadership.

We believe the new administrative alignment will do nothing to deter the demonstrated efficiency currently being exhibited within the district.

We wish Superintendent/ Principal Skaggs the best of luck in his dual endveaor.
