Senseless Unrest

FOR?THE past week, the city of Baltimore has been in turmoil after the death of a prisoner in police custody. Residents have taken to the streets in protests that have resulted in riots and looting of businesses. Curfews were in place and police presence was heavy in the streets.

The question that sparked the unrest was whether the suspect died because of actions by the Baltimore Police Department.

Over the course of the last year, more and more protests and riots have been brought on due to actions by police.

Charges were filed Friday against six police officers in connection with the death.

There is nothing wrong with questioning why and how someone died. There is nothing wrong with taking a stand, especially if you feel strongly about the issue. But what is wrong is that these protests are being violent, basically destroying towns and cities.

What is the point of destroying your home?

When the Baltimore scenario is put to bed and the dust has settled, the city will not be the same as it will have to be rebuilt, prolonging the healing process because there is an ugly blemish caused by senseless people. Protesting should be non-violent and civil, not violent and covered in flames.

In this dark period in Baltimore, there has been a few slivers of light. Pictures have swirled around the internet of men standing in front of police officers, shielding them from harm.

Another, and probably the most famous, has shown a mother who saw her son in the streets as one of the rioters. She proceeded to chase him down and dragged him home. As part of her fame, this mother has been interviewed by several national shows.?She did not do it for the fame, but rather in an attempt to protect her son.

The world needs more mothers like her.
