Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS to the first steps toward bringing a community hospital to the western end of St. Clairsville. Ground was broken for a new Trinity Health System facility on Thursday.

JEERS to anyone who decides to dump their garbage along local roadsides. From simple littering to outright dumping of furniture and household items, it is wrong.

CHEERS to the Barnesville State Theater Company for its progress toward reopening the historic downtown structure. It is a piece of history that is worth saving and will be a benefit to the entire community.

JEERS to the act that the winning Powerball ticket was sold in California rather than here in the Ohio Valley. Area residents who dreamed of winning expressed hopes and dreams that would have helped many people.

CHEERS to 100-year-old World War II veteran Joseph Binni for earning the French Legion of Honor medal for his service during that conflict. The Shadyside resident is still a member of the Powhatan American Legion.

CHEERS TO Kirke Porterfield and Kirke’s Ice Cream for hosting a fiundraising event for a future Belmont County dog park. It was also a nice way to observe National Ice Cream Day.

CHEERS to news that some national music acts, including longtime rock star Alice Cooper, are coming to the local area.
