Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS to all the area residents who were successful in their bids to win elected offices on Tuesday. Remember, you now work for the people.

JEERS to the fact that the fate of the former Bellaire Bridge still remains uncertain more than 30 years after it closed to traffic. The structure continues to deteriorate and pose a threat to those below.

CHEERS to Belmont County Sheriff David Lucas and his staff for developing an app that provides all sorts of information about law enforcement in the county. It is free to download.

JEERS to the wintry weather we continued to experience this past week. It seems like Mother Nature missed the fact that the calendar flipped to spring. Let’s hope she notices sometime soon.

CHEERS to Martins Ferry city leaders for their efforts to secure funding to repair Alumni and School roads. The slips there pose dangers to the traveling public, and the restrictions cause inconvenience.

CHEERS to the Martins Ferry Area Chamber of Commerce for bringing Dr. Joseph Maroon to speak to people attending its annual spring dinner. Maroon, a local native, was entertaining and informative.

CHEERS to Bridgeport area officials for providing ample opportunities for residents to rid themselves of unwanted junk in the coming weeks.
