Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS to all the young men and women who have been named to the homecoming courts at high schools around the region. Best of luck to you all!

JEERS to the fact that the Ohio River came very close to flooding the Austin Master frack waste recycling facility in Martins Ferry last week. The site allegedly is housing thousands of tons of dangerous waste.

CHEERS to local schools and others who got the word out that it would be dangerous to view Monday’s eclipse with the naked eye. People were safely able to enjoy the spectacle as a result.

JEERS to the need for Jefferson County commissioners to make ready to ensure that the site where Eastern Gateway Community College is located reverts back to the county if the college closes.

CHEERS to the students who were inducted into the Martins Ferry High School chapter of the National Honor Society earlier this month. Membership in that organization is quite an achievement.

CHEERS to word that a new Museum of Surveying is coming to Historic Ft. Steuben. The original fort was already standing when surveyors fanned out across the Northwest Territory to begin the nation’s expansion to the West.

CHEERS to the village of Shadyside for taking advantage of grant opportunities to improve the community.
