Cheers & Jeers

CHEERS to the OR&W Fire District members who were officially sworn in for their duties this past week. Although some had been on the job for quite a while, they were finally recognized and pinned.

JEERS to Mother Nature for continuing to push rough weather our way. Yet another tornado was confirmed this week, this time in Jefferson and Hancock counties.

CHEERS to word that the city of St. Clairsville received two consecutive $500,000 grants through the Ohio Department of Transportation. The money will go toward paving and road improvements.

JEERS to concerns that drug-laced chocolate bars could be circulating in the community. Word of that came after a Monroe County couple was arrested for allegedly distributing psilocybin mushrooms and other drugs.

CHEERS to the Tom Thomas and the Sedgwick House Museum in Martins Ferry for hosting tours for elementary students and teaching them about the city’s history. The museum’s collection helps preserve rich heritage.

CHEERS to organizers of the annual Senior Support Fair at the Ohio Valley Mall. The event provides vendors and older residents a chance to connect and makes a variety of resources available.

CHEERS to the string of funding announcements made by Gov. Mike DeWine, providing millions for a variety of projects across Appalachian Ohio.
