Donate Life

Dear Editor,

April is Donate Life Month, a time to reflect on the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. I’d like to tell you about Shelby, an outgoing, 27 year-old daycare teacher who lives in Central Ohio. She’s a newlywed she married her sweetheart Ryan in 2013. She and her husband should be planning to buy their first home and start a family. But instead, Shelby cannot plan for a future. Hers is unknown. It lies in the hands of a compassionate stranger, like you.

Shelby is one of the 123,000 Americans waiting for a second chance at life. She was born with a congenital heart defect and she needs a new heart. You can help Shelby. You can offer her hope by registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor.

Every day 21 men, women and children in the United States die for lack of an available organ. If you have not yet made the decision to become a donor, we hope you will consider it. By joining the Ohio Donor Registry, you have the potential to save eight lives through organ donation and enhance up to 50 lives through tissue donation. Donation will not affect funeral plans, there is no cost to donate and your medical care will never be compromised because of your status as a donor.

Signing up is easy. You can register at your local BMV, go online to www.lifelineofohio.org, or call 800-525-5667 with questions.

To every Ohioan who has registered as a hero of donation, Shelby and thousands of others waiting for the Gift of Life thank you for providing hope for a future.

Sincerely,

Kent Holloway
