The recent Sunday opinion page demonstrated once again the mental gymnastics of those determined to promote Trump and their version of conservatism. The Sunday school pundit weighed in with a rant about higher education and its promotion of “communist progressive thought.”

His proof is a supposed Klein study showing only 61 percent of certain college departments have Republican members. That would be considerably more than the national percentage of registered Republicans.

Equally sketchy logic was demonstrated by the local coal operator; he is ecstatic over Trump’s assault on decades of environmental improvement. Evidently the finances of around 80,000 miners are more important than the health of the other 330 million of us.

A return to school for refresher courses in math and logic could benefit both these writers.
