The Trump ‘Deep State’
Dear Editor,
How troubling, but, unfortunately, not at all surprising that the United States Department of Justice under both former Attorneys General Jeff Sessions and his successor William Barr, under the direction of former President Donald J. Trump, had routinely “spied” on numerous Democratic adversaries, in particular Adam Schiff and Eric Swallwell, several congressional aides, members of the media, as well as former White House counsel under President Trump, Don McGahn, who had the “unmitigated temerity’ to refuse to fire then-special counsel Robert Mueller, who was in charge of investigating President Trump for possible “impeachable and/or criminal acts he may have committed or had committed on his behalf?”
It is quite obvious that former President Trump is chiefly responsible for the creation of the lawless “Deep State” of government, which he always conveniently accused, without evidence, those governmental entities to have been somehow motivated to “destroy the Trump presidency,” when it was he (Trump) who was actively pursuing dictatorial options in order to circumvent the democratic process for his own personal and/or political benefit.
In addition, it has also been reported that during the Trump administration that then-treasury secretary Elaine Chao would routinely actively pursue participate in business meeting to benefit her family’s business, a large shipping conglomerate, with China, in her official capacity with the Trump administration, which was, without question, totally illegal, but completely overlooked by President Trump and the Trump justice department.
Recall also, that Mr. Chao’s spouse is none other than Sen. Mitch McConnell, who at that time served as majority leader (Republican) of the U.S. Senate.
Have they no shame, but of course this was simply “business as usual” during the Trump presidency.
In closing, former president Trump continues to espouse the “Big Lie” that he somehow actually won the 2020 U.S. presidential election in a “landslide” no less, when all credible evidence reveals that such is by no means the case, and that there is simply no evidence, whatsoever, to, by, any means, substantiate his outrageous claim.
In response, recently quarterback Tom Brady of the defending N.F.L. Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and a long-time Trump ally, jocularly stated at a recent White House ceremony to honor the current Super Bowl champs, that that “40 percent of people still don’t think I’ve won the (most recent) Super Bowl,” indicating just how ridiculous supporters of the Trump “Big Lie” appear, as such conveniently overlook confirmed reality for what they consider to be a more desirous, although completely illegitimate, outcome.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Richard Hord,
