Trust the science
Dear Editor,
The COVID-19 vaccines have been an incredible achievement for medical science and for America. They show what can happen when bioscience innovation is encouraged and mobilized with less government bureaucracy.
Some people may be skeptical of the vaccines because they seem to be developed quickly.
The rapid development was the result of research that started more than 20 years ago, as bio scientists worked on another kind of coronavirus. This existing research, along with funding and streamlined regulations, allowed a worldwide collaborative to develop the COVID-19 vaccines in rapid response to the new coronavirus.
Testing and clinical trials for the vaccines were the largest in history. Some trials happened in Ohio, with Ohioans of all ages and races participating. These Ohioans, along with millions of others, have contributed greatly to medical science and to public health.
I demonstrated my support of this vaccine by volunteering at 10 vaccine clinics for the Belmont County Health Department. If you have questions about the COVID-19 vaccine, I encourage you to talk to your pharmacist, a nurse or your doctor. If you would like to learn more or if you’re ready for the shot, go to https://coronavirus.ohio.gov/.
