Time & Eternity
Dear Editor,
Jesus the Christ began his public ministry with the words, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” — Mk 1:15, RSV
Over two thousand years later, his inspired invitation remains.
His forebear, King David, nearly three thousand years ago proclaimed, “Because the poor are despoiled, because the needy groan, I will now arise, says the LORD; I will place him in the safety for which he longs. The promises of the LORD are promises that are pure, silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times. Do thou, O LORD, protect us, guard us ever from this generation. On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among the sons of men.” — Ps 12:5-8
In the years following Jesus the Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection and ascension, the Apostle Paul proclaimed, “The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all men everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all men by raising him from the dead.” — Acts 17:30-31 “For all the promises of God find their ‘Yes’ in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God.” — II Cor 1:20
