Bloomberg campaign will hurt Ohio Valley

Dear Editor,

In Ohio, our state has so much to offer, that’s why we welcome those who are interested in investing, building and calling it home.

Unfortunately, a recent financial endeavor by former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg does not have the Ohio Valley’s best interest in mind and in fact will hurt the region of the state and the people who live here.

This month, Mr. Bloomberg announced an $85 million campaign that will target a few areas, one being the Ohio Valley.

This campaign wants to halt any expansion of petrochemical manufacturing and the economic opportunities that come with it from the region. What Mr. Bloomberg fails to do is use his immense wealth to actually invest in the Ohio Valley.

The economic benefits of the natural gas and oil industry goes far beyond the companies and the facilities that are built here.

Small businesses and Ohioans upstream and downstream from the industry can testify to the advantages they feel from the industry. A study by JobsOhio this year showed the Ohio natural gas and oil industry has invested $95.3 billion dollars in the state since 2011.

Even Mr. Bloomberg should be able to appreciate what such a large sum of money has meant to the state and to the Ohio Valley.

Mr. Bloomberg’s campaign is short sighted for the communities it will negatively impact and is driven by misinformation on the natural gas and oil industry. Ohio is better than the vision of a New York billionaire.
