Wishing Chief McFarland the best
Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to respectfully express my gratitude to former Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland for his outstanding service throughout his 29-year career in law enforcement, in particular for his work and dedication to the city of Martins Ferry since joining the force in 1995. And for his service as chief of police for the city in 2011 until his recent retirement.
Chief McFarland, a lifelong resident of the city, graduated from Martins Ferry High School, where he was honored for his athletic prowess by his induction into the Martins Ferry High School Athletic Hall of Fame as have his father, Richard, and his brother, Brian, serves as an officer for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, also has been honored.
Throughout his long career in law enforcement Chief McFarland was well known and highly respected for his professionalism, dedication, work ethic caring and accessibility. He was an outstanding leader and public servant.
I commend Chief McFarland and members of the Martins Ferry Police Department for their being without question, one of the finest in the state of Ohio.
I wish Chief McFarland a long and happy retirement and wish only the very best for his successor, Sergeant Jerry Murphy, and all members of the Martins Ferry Police Department as well.
