Inevitable
Dear Editor,
When I confront — all the time — the bitter hatred against black and brown people, Jews, Muslims, White Christian Nationalists, LGBTQs, and everyone else, I want to tell everyone to read Walt Whitman’s Observation (1869) about humanity:
∫ each of us inevitable
∫ each of us limitless
∫ each of us with his or her right on the earth
∫ each of us allow’d the eternal purposes of the earth
∫ each of us here divinely as any is here
Perhaps if this came to be, everyone would get rid of their guns and smile and shake hands again. It’s worth a try.
