Cleanup thanks
Dear Editor,
The Mead Township Board of Trustees would like to thank the volunteers and participants in our annual clean-up this past weekend under the Moundsville Bridge. Mead Trustees, JB Green Team’s Shawn Albauch and volunteers Kara Baker Justin Colbank assisted with unloading over seventy-five vehicles filling four trash roll offs and one metal roll off.
This program is indicative of the importance of responsible solid waste management. Persons who participated were truly appreciative of the event and program.
Unfortunately, less than forty-eight hours after the cleanup, and less than one mile away someone illegally dumped construction debris, toilets, and other items along TR #534 Broadview Road. This action is not only unhealthy and unsightly, but also extremely dangerous for township employees who mow the roads and trim trees.
As in the past Mead Township has successfully identified and prosecuted persons who dump illegally. This could not have been possible without people coming forward and informing us. This incident will be no different. Fortunately, evidence left at the site will allow us to proceed with an investigation and prosecution.
Keep in mind when township employees must cleanup sites like this, it takes us away from our core activity of patching roads, tree removal, cutting weeds, and maintaining our fifteen cemeteries. To assist us with addressing this never-ending problem we have a simple ask of the traveling public. If you see something, we are asking persons not to engage violators, but to simply get a license number or make and model of vehicle and time of the incident for us to pursue prosecution.
