Dear Editor:

The news is certainly grim these days.

Just look at some of the stories making the headlines, and not much seems to being done about it.

CLIMATE CHANGE: The earth is on fire, all time heat and storm records being set everywhere. The carbon industry and their cheerleaders are demanding more and more coal, gas and oil be mined and burned causing more heat than the earth can tolerate to sustain life.

RACISM: Bigots are run amuck trying to turn America back to the Jim Crow era. The gunning down of people of color by police is too often–it is modern day lynching. Except for a handful of athletes and entertainers racist inequality is prevalent everywhere.

GUNS: Automatic guns are owned by way too many deranged people and far too many of them have been used against absolutely innocent people. Shotguns for hunting and home protection are the only guns that should be allowed.

WAR AGAINST WOMEN: The vote in majority of states outlawing or greatly limiting abortion is not only potentially very harmful to women health it is an attempt to reverse the gains women have made toward equality in our society.

U.S. SUPREME COURT: The Court has taken away freedoms gained by blood and toil such as Roe and gun control and the majority justices are planning to take away many other freedoms, while at the same time a number of them have been proven to be corrupt.

POLITICS: People of goodwill are fighting to save freedoms and the rule of good law against tyrants like Donald Trump who wishes to make America an autocracy.

My message is not the downers of today, but it is meant to be: “be aware and make the good fight.” After all we did get rid of slavery and defeat Hitler.
