Using religion to promote prejudices
Dear Editor,
For several weeks we have been treated to letters beginning with “I was speaking at a church the other night”: they then launch into the standard MAGA recitation on how our institutions are plotting to deprive us of “our freedoms.” The allegations are buttressed by cherry picked Biblical references.
It is difficult to decide which is more offensive: promotion of right-wing conspiracy theories, or pretending the Bible validates them. Its message is one of inclusion, charity and forgiveness — the exact opposite of the mean-spirited philosophy promoted by our church speaker!
Hopefully Times Leader readers are not influenced by these attempts to use religion to promote political prejudices.
