Newspaper columnists criticized

Dear Editor,

The Times Leader’s Opinion page has been featuring more and more right-wing foolishness; the January 5th edition provides excellent examples. A Creators Syndicate writer trys to convince us Israel’s October 7th loss of 1200 people is genocide, but the death of 22000 Palestinians (and counting) is not. He conveniently overlooks Israel’s indiscriminate bombing and shelling of the civilian population, the embargo of food, fuel, and medicine, or their orders to move to “safe” areas which they then bomb.

Equally egregious is the King Features Syndicate piece concerning covid; in a blinding flash of hindsight the writer has discovered the restrictions imposed during the pandemic were not good policy. The resulting deficits in jobs, mental health and schooling were not worth limiting the covid death toll to only 1.2 million.

Considering the numbers ignored (mis-understood?) by these columnists, we should probably require passage of an 8th grade math test before publishing them!
