Route 214, aka Rose Hill Pike/High Ridge

Dear Editor,

Route 214 from I-470 serves as a gateway to neighborhoods on Moss Run Rd, Jorden Run Rd, Breezy Point, Patterson Hill, Overlook Ct, Rock Mt Rd, Hillview Ave, Central Ave, and Crescent St.

I apologize if I have missed anyone.

It is also flanked by two cemeteries holding souls of countless loved ones.

Addresses change (i.e. High Ridge Rd., Rose Hill Pike) but all become part and parcel of “The All American Town.”

Citizens, the lower portion of 214 is an unsafe, deteriorating embarrassment to the village.

Consider my imaginary scenario. A group of young people became friends at a track meet event. They are from Zanesville, Cambridge, and St. Clairsville and have grouped together in a van to attend a football game under the lights at Nelson Field. 214 is a known shortcut into Bellaire, plus with all the twist and turns it could be a fun drive. The evening is misty and fog is developing as they near the first cemetery. All this just adds to the challenge. Unprepared for the unknown, unsafe conditions the van goes out of control. Many are injured. One never hugs his or her parents again.

I also envision a funeral procession trying to navigate from town. What a challenge.

Easter is upon us with family gatherings, cemetery stops, etc. Traffic.

Word has it that FEMA dropped the ball after storm damage resulted in crushed storm drain /culvert. Now you see unavoidable potholes, erosion, evidence of slips. Rumors of damaged tires, suspension wear and tear, overall vehicle devaluation.

Powers that be, it is time to move on, face facts, step up and repair 214. Please do this before my aforementioned scenario becomes a reality.
