THE SON
Dear Editor,
In Mt 16:33(RSV), Jesus inquired of his disciples “Who do men say that the Son of man is?”
Simon Peter’s response, “You are the Christ the Son of the living God,” is revelatory and sets the stage for more revelations that end with Jesus’ prophetic declaration in Mt 16:28, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”
This prophecy provides essential context for understanding Jesus’ prophecy in Mt 24:34-36–“Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away till all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”
On Golgotha this prophecy was dramatically fulfilled when God the Father revealed to the Son of man (Jn 8:28-29) that “The End” (Mt 24:36) had come for the ultimate judgement (Jn 5:22, 27, Rom 3:3-4) that saved the world (Jn 6:51, I Jn 4:14-18) and sustained the universe (Heb 1:3) to this very moment. Jesus the Christ is God’s Eternal Constant–Jn 17:26, I Cor 15:20-24!
The true nature of God the Father and the Son are definitively revealed (Jn 1:18, 8:28, 10:36, Mt 11:27) in reciprocated glory (Jn 17:1) since Jesus was never sin in the eyes of God but only in the eyes of sinners. Jesus’ death as the Christ–Rom 5:6–proved his humanity to Satan’s ultimate chagrin–Job 2:4-5.
Furthermore, “The First Coming” culminated in Jesus the Christ becoming the Alpha and Omega incarnate (Mt 27:45-46, Jn 19:30, Lk 23:46)–the New Creation (Lk 24:39, Rev 1:5) by enduring the judgment of us sinners (Mt 27:17-44, Jn 19:1-19, Mt 27:45-46, Heb 12:1-3)!
Jesus the Christ declared in Mt 28:18 & Rev 1:8 that “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”
For “I am the Alpha and Omega … who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Happy Easter!
