Ohio’s Energy Impact: At the Core of Our Daily Lives
Dear Editor,
Ohio’s energy industry is the backbone of modern life — powering our homes, fueling our vehicles and driving our economy.
Affordable, reliable energy isn’t just a convenience — it’s essential to life as we know it in Ohio and across the globe.
Our recent report, The Essential Facts on Essential Ohio Energy, showcases that Ohio stands as a national leader in energy, ranking 10th in overall energy production and 8th in electricity generation. Natural gas is at the heart of this success, supplying nearly 60% of the state’s electricity. Its impact is felt in households across Ohio, where almost two-thirds of residents depend on natural gas to heat their homes — highlighting just how vital this resource is to everyday life.
The state’s energy infrastructure supports this demand. Ohio produces more natural gas than it consumes, exporting surplus to neighboring states like Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Louisiana. Additionally, Ohio boasts the seventh-largest natural gas storage capacity among U.S. states, ensuring a reliable supply during peak demand periods. We are grateful to the hardworking men and women in the natural gas and oil industries who keep Ohio running — every day of the year.
