Israel, Iran and Jeremiah
Dear Editor,
There is an old saying, “history doesn’t always repeat but it certainly rhymes.” The Bible is like that. In Ecclesiastes 1:9 we find the following verse, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” When I speak at various churches, I sometimes mention that the Bible contains “dual references.” In this context the Bible may mention a historical event that may also be referencing a future prophetic event. That event may actually involve the progeny of the original person, city, or country but the name has changed to match a modern reference. It could also be a symbolic reference of a future person, city or country. For example, many believe that Magog and Gog in Ezekial 38-39 is actually modern day Russia and Mystery Babylon in Revelation 17-18 is the United States. None of that is positive but again when you look at things such as culture, geographic location, economics etc… you see similarities or “references.”
The reason I go into this long winded explanation is to allow the reader to see the Iranian-Israeli conflict from a Biblical end times perspective.
In Jeremiah 49:35-39 we find the following verses: 35 Thus says the Lord of Hosts:I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.36 Upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds. And there will be no nation where the outcasts of Elam will not go. 37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life.
And I will bring disaster upon them, even My fierce anger, says the Lord; and I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them. 38 And I will set My throne in Elam and will destroy from there the king and the officials says the Lord. 39 But it will come to pass in the latter days that I will restore the fortunes of Elam, says the Lord.
Let’s look at keywords:
Elam: ancient empire of modern day Iran. Many of the nuclear sites are located in this area.
Bow: as in bow and arrow. The bow propels the arrow. Israel has destroyed many of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile (arrow) launch sites (bow). Thus Iran cannot shoot as many missiles. They lose the “chief of their might”
Scatter to the four winds: people are leaving Tehran in droves. If the nuclear reactor is destroyed by an American bomb will we have a Chernobyl event in Iran?
I will set my throne in Elam: Iran becomes a Christian nation after the Tribulation period mentioned in the Bible and its people will return.(latter days)
Iran uses proxies such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis to kill innocent people, especially Jews. October 7th was an Iranian sponsored attack on Israel.
More evil will happen while this “scattering” is happening. It will not be good for the USA or any nation in the long run.The reason is that our country is filled with terrorist and “sleeper” cells. Thank you Biden and Democrats.
Again, let me say, this is only a possible interpretation. I want to be wrong about this and only God knows exactly what will happen. Geopolitics and history are always intertwined with the Bible. People still need to repent and live for Jesus. Every 3 out of 10 verses in Scripture are prophetic. Prophecy is important or it would not be so prevalent in the Bible.
Jesus fulfilled over 300 verses of the Old Testament when He came the first time. There are some 500 verses, Old and New Testament, that mention His Second Coming. Again, regardless of whether this event is interpreted by me correctly or not, I must at least warn that it is possible. But mark the Word of God. One day it will happen. I hope you accept the salvation of Christ’s gift today.
