Natural gas helps Ohioans keep cool

Dear Editor,

It’s officially summer in the Buckeye State, and as temperatures rise it is crucial we have access to reliable and affordable energy. Last summer, the majority of Ohio saw at least 30 days of 90 degree heat, and this year is on a similar pace. To keep cool, Ohioans are utilizing our state’s essential and reliable natural gas to power their air conditioning and keep their families and businesses safe.

Natural gas remains the most dependable energy source for air conditioning during summer heat waves. While solar and wind power struggle to meet rising demand, natural gas plants can boost production to maintain grid stability. This flexibility in production makes natural energy more resilient in times of increased demand.

In Ohio alone, over 63% of residents rely on natural gas storage to generate electricity for their homes. For many families, natural gas is a vital component in maintaining a safe and livable temperature, especially for those with more vulnerable populations, like small children and the elderly.

It is essential that we continue to recognize that Ohio’s abundant clean burning natural gas is the most dependable and affordable way to power our communities.
