Dailer Memorial Tourney winners announced

The annual Dubie Dailer Memorial Tournament was held last Sunday with 110 players competing at the Crispin Golf Center.

Winning the medal division was the duo of Brooke Garrison and Tim Gilligan with a round of 63. Rich Humphrey and Tim Pelley finished second with a 64.

Posting a 65 were the duos of Joe Doerr and Mark Maguire Sr.; Ted Stupak and Adam Stupak; Wally Chlon and Andrew Chlon; Paul Kurtz and Rod Lydick.

In the handicap scoring division, Dom Granata and Roger Kent took the top prize with a round of 58. They were two shots clear of Gary Yahn and Chris Yahn. Jeff Thrash and J.C. Thrash finished third with a 61. Jim Dailer and Rick Zandron finished with a 62, which is also the number posted by Bill Mumley and Gary Cunningham.

There were five closest to the pin prizes awarded, too. Those went to Dave Simms (No. 2), Gary Keidasch (No. 5), Roger Kent (No. 7), Paul Kurtz (No. 10) and John Fahey (No. 13).

The longest drive prizes went to Andrew Chlon (No. 4) and Greg Gaudino (No. 12). Skins were recorded by the Chlon and Chlon duo on No. 4; Doerr and Maguire on No. 8 and Jerry Ernest and Dale Kurner on No. 12.

WILSON MEMORIAL

The Wheeling Park Men’s Golf Club is hosting the 20th annual John Wilson Memorial Amateur Classic.

The event is slated for May 28-29 at Wheeling Park Golf Course with more than $3,000 in awards and prizes.

OUE GOLFERS

The Ohio University Eastern golf squad wrapped up its season with a second-place finish in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference Tournament. The Panthers were eight shots back of Kent State Tuscarawas. OUE finished with a 647 over the two-day event.

Leading the way for OUE was Buckeye Trail grad Trevor Wilson, who finished with a 154, including rounds of 78 and 76. Bridgeport’s Jonathan Kreiter was three shots back of Wilson. Union Local product Trevor Mudrak was third on the team with rounds of 80 and 78.

SCRAMBLE RESULTS

The Wheeling Soup Kitchen Scramble was held at Crispin Golf Course earlier this month.

The winning team was comprised of Brett Clough, Chris Zambito, Matt Ball and Larry Piko. The foursome teamed for a 15-under par round of 56. The second-place award went to the quartet of Mike Lee, David Morris, Shawn Donaldson and Don McFarland with a score of 13-under.

There was a tie for third place. The team of Ted Showalter, Tom King, Andy Poe and Tom Zinoble as well James Mahute, Gary Clark, Rich Vanelle and Eric Walker. Those teams signed for an 11-under.

ACE

FORMER WEST Liberty men’s basketball coach Dan Petri recorded a hole-in-one at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course on May 18. He aced the 162-yard second hole with a 4-iron. His fete was witnessed by Jay Mosa and Mark Jarrett.

WHEELING COUNTRY CLUB

The opening round of Member-Member qualifying was held last weekend. Mike Romaine and Glen Didriksen finished with an event-low round of 64. Dave Zatezalo and Shishir Shah posted a 67, which was also what Phil High and Joe Blalock signed for. There were three rounds of 68 and a 70.

Another round of qualifying was held on Saturday and the low 16 scores from both events will comprise the field.

The closest to the pin prizes went to Elvin Wickham and Jeff Peters. The low net and low gross score when to the duo of Pilck and McJessey with 34s.

UPCOMING SCRAMBLES

The 18th Annual Niekro Classic will be held Friday, June 24th at Belmont Hills Country Club with an 8:30 am shotgun start. Cost per golfer is $100 which includes golf, cart, lunch, dinner and prizes. THE ANNUAL Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Golf Scramble is planned for Saturday, Aug. 13 at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course in Rayland. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $50 per player or $200 per team. That fee includes golf, cart, lunch. Registration for the event will run from 7:30 a.m. until the tournament begins. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for $50 for a hole sponsor. The proceeds of the event go to the Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Foundation, which supports an OVAC softball scholarship. THE THOMAS R. Dowler Memorial Golf Classic will be held on Monday, at Belmont Hills Country Club. The event will begin with a shot-gun start at noon, but lunch and registration will occur at 11 a.m. Dinner will be served after the round. The proceeds of the event go to the Thomas R. Dowler Fund which supports students, faculty, programs and facilities at Belmont College. The cost for a team is $500 or $125 per person. There are hole sponsorship packages available, too.

THE BELLAIRE Sons of Italy Lodge will hold its 17th annual golf scramble on Monday, June 6 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The event, which will benefit the Alzheimers & Coole’s Anemia Charities, will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. The entry fee is $200 per four-man team. The cost includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner after the round. The top three places will receive a cash prize. For more information, please contact Phil Pata at 740-695-0691.

THE AMERICAN Legion Bellaire Post 52 will host the annual Tom Donahue Memorial Golf Scramble on Saturday, July 9 at BecWood Golf Course. The entry fee is $50 per player and it start at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. The event is open is open to the public.
