Off the Tee: Sons of Italy Senior Tournament champions announced
The annual Sons of Italy Golf Tournament was held at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course last Monday.
Winning the team title was the foursome of Duane Gulla, Lou Di Paolo, Brian Herron and Kevin Lahne. Finishing second was Joe Husek, Bill Husek, Gray Orban and Vinnie Bonomo. The third-place prize went to the foursome of Dan Stephens, Daniel Stephens, Paul Stecker and Mark Stecker.
The closest to the pin prizes were won by Tim Ciardelli on No. 2, Phil Pata II on No. 7 and Kevin Barthalomew on No. 4.

OGLEBAY PARK GOLF CLUB
The club held its fourth tournament of the season with 88 players taking part in the Miklas Meat Market in an event, which features medal and handicap scoring.
Dave Simms captured the medal division with a round of 65. He was two shots clear of Jay Davis and three shots better than Rich Humphrey. Rod Lydick, Joe Doerr, Rick Zandron and Andrew Chlon all finished with rounds of 70. Jonathan Kreiter finished with a 73.
In the handicap scoring, Chuck Hawkins posted a round of 61 to win by shot over Mark Maguire. Neal Chase and Greg Woodfin both tallied 63s, while Jay Salva posted a 64.
The closest to the pin prizes went to Rod Lydick (No. 2), Austin Marsh (No. 5), Curt Byrum (No. 7), Robbie Evans (No. 10) and Jay Tazar (No. 13).
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The club held its Larry Loew Memorial Golf Scramble last Sunday. The duo of Art Lightner and Roger Kupfer prevailed with a 59. That was a shot better than Gary Mercer and Craig Bommer. Jim Ennis and Bob Green finished third with a round of 68. Jim Kupfer and Ron Heatherly posted a 69 and Steve Usenick and Lloyd Carmichael finished with a 70.
In the handicap scoring, Bob McLaughlin and Nick Klamut won with a 55. Jerry Daugherty and Dennis Porter were second with a 57. Rick Richmond and Ryan Richmond also signed for a 57 as did Tony Campbell and Tony Lira.
The City Wide Insurance outing was held on June 1. George Melnick prevailed with a 36. He edged out Bruno DeCrease in a scorecard playoff. Also finishing with a 36 was Clark Sambuco. Doug Miller was in sole possession of fourth with a 39. Rich Colley, Dick Moore and Bob Green all finished with a 39.
Robbie Evans had 33 to win the handicap division. Dave Scollick added 33, while Jim Ennis had a 34. Dave Stauver posted a 36 and Tom Mitchell notched a 37.
WHEELING COUNTRY CLUB
The Wheeling Country Club held its annual Member-Guest Invitational last weekend. Tim Roberts and Mike Hines won the Bobby Jones Flight with a score of 121. They were five shots better than Scott Seabright and Bryan Myers and eight shots clear of Tom Mendenhall and Roger Waialae.
Justin Ferrell and Brad Archer prevailed in the Ben Hogan Flight with a 128. Rico Simonetti and Danny Boltz finished second with a 131, while Jim Brinsky and Eric Stakem finished with a 134 for third place.
In the Sam Snead Flight, Chris Zambito and Wes Howard finished with a 133, which was a shot better than Joe Barki and Brian Lawrence. Steve Bloch and Tim Leonard posted a 137.
Phil High and Dale Radosevich shot a 128 to win the Arnold Palmer Flight. Mike Romaine and Robert Romaine were second with a 132 and Christian Miller and Alan Rossin were third with a 136.
The overall championship went to Roberts and Hines.
Mark Mullins won the closest to the pin on No. 3, while Myers drained the longest putt on No. 10. The skill prizes, on Sunday, went to Ferrell for the closest to the pin on No. 12 and Roberts for the longest putt made on No. 18.
JUNIOR TOURNAMENTS
THE SALT Fork Junior Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, July 5 at Salt Fork State Park Golf Course, which is located just outside of Cambridge. The event will have three age groups (13-14, 15-16, 17-18) for boys and two (13-15, 16-18) for girls with the top three in each age group receiving awards. The entry fee is $30 for non Salt Fork members and $20 for members. There will be a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.

THE BELMONT HILLS Junior Golf Tournament will be held on July 25. The event will have three age groups (13-14, 15-16, 17-18) for boys and two (13-15, 16-18) for girls with the top three in each age group receiving awards. The entry fee is $30 and lunch will be provided for all tournament contestants.

THE ANNUAL Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Golf Scramble is planned for Saturday, Aug. 13 at Bec-Wood Hills Golf Course in Rayland. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $50 per player or $200 per team. That fee includes golf, cart, lunch. Registration for the event will run from 7:30 a.m. until the tournament begins. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for $50 for a hole sponsor. The proceeds of the event go to the Amanda Rosepapa Memorial Foundation, which supports an OVAC softball scholarship.
