OV Seniors Golf Tournament slated Monday

Some of the premier senior golfers will be teeing up on Monday at Cadiz Country Club as part of the Ohio Valley Seniors Golf Association tournament.

The event, which is the 73rd annual, will tee off with a shot-gun start at 12:30 p.m. and prizes will be awarded in six age groups (50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 and over).

The tournament brings together players from eight country clubs in the Ohio Valley, including Belmont Hills, Cadiz, East Liverpool, Moundsville, Steubenville, Wheeling and Williams.

Dave Reasbeck was the winner of the title, posting a low-net score of 69, in last year’s event.

Here are the hole assignments:

BELMONT HILLS RESULTS

Belmont Hills Country Club held its annual Summer 6-6-6 event on Aug. 21.

Dave Reasbeck and Chuck Newell teamed to win the first flight and overall title with a round of 61. Zach Azallion and J.C. Thrash finished second with a 62, while Larry Gertscher and John Jeffries finished third with a round of 65 in the first flight.

In the second flight, Rick Frio and Dave Humphreys prevailed with a 63. Phil Pata Jr. and Joe Gaudio finished second with a 65 and Tim Conway Jr. and The Tim Conway were third with a 69.

Closest to the pin prizes went to Sonny Jacob and Reasbeck.

RYDER/SCOTT ANTHONY CUP

Belmont Hills Country Club announced its team for the annual event that pits the BHCC team against a group from Wheeling Country Club for a tournament that’s stayed on Sept. 9 and 10. Spots on the team were determined by the players’ places in the club championship event that was held last weekend.

The BHCC team will consist of Jade Waligura (142), James Carson (148), Jay Davis (148), Andrew Strope (152), Anthony Reasbeck (153), Bryan Woodford (153), Larry Landtiser (155), Larry Blake (156), Dave Reasbeck (156), Zach Hanson (158) and Courtney Smith (158).

OGLEBAY PARK GOLF CLUB

The club’s seventh tournament of the season was held last Sunday with 92 players taking part in the Undo’s/McCann Distributing Two-Man Best Ball event at Crispin.

The championship was won by the duo of Jonathan Haley and Kyle Wensel, who fired a 61. That was one shot better than Jim Tysk and Joe Hartman. Third place went to the duo of Zack Hood and Zach Stahl, who also posted a 61. Fourth place went to Paul Kurtz and Penn Kurtz at 62. Fifth place was captured by Gary Kiedaisch and Zach Sonnefeld with a 62.

Finishing with 63 in sixth place was Larry Bonar and Doug Richards. Greg Gaudino and Joe Templin were seventh with a 63 and Joe Doerr and Bob Clark were eighth with a 63.

The closest to the pin awards went to Mike Neal (No. 2), Rich Humphrey (No. 5), Brooke Garrison (No. 7), Dan Oliver (No. 10) and Clark Sambuco (No. 13).

The skins winners were Mike Wetzel (eagle 3), Doug Miller (Double-eagle 2) and Tom Gilligan (eagle 2).

WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB

The Miklas Meat Market event was held on Aug. 21 and included a 9-hole, 2-man best ball format. The team of Nick Klamut and Bob McLaughlin prevailed with a 32, while Jim Ennis and Bob Green finished second with a 33. Dave Stauver and Dick Moore finished third with a 33. Rick Colley and Joe Wurtzberger had a 33 for fourth place.

In the handicap scoring, Bob Hicks and Ted Koski prevailed with a 27. That was two better than Jerry Daugherty and Denny Porter. Steve Domyan and Joe Kosar finished third with a 30.

The Wheeling Spring Service Company event was held on Aug. 21 with a bestball format. Jim Ennis and Bob Green prevailed with a 33. Rich Colley and Joe Wurtzberger were second with a 33. Bruno DeCrease was third with a 36.

In the handicap scoring, Bob Hicks and Ted Koski prevailed with a 30, while Dave Stauver and Dick Moore were second with a 31. Steve Domyan and Joe Kosar finished third with a 33.

On Aug. 17, the club hosted its annual Rich & Shirley’s Quick Print event that featured medal and handicap scoring. Colley prevailed with a 33, while Art Lightner was second with a 34. Roger Kupfer was third with a 34. Robbie Evans finished fourth with a 39 and Jim Ennis was fifth with a 40.

In the handicap scoring, Bob Green prevailed with a 32. Joe Kosar was second with a 33 and Jim Druschel was third with a 34. Chris Bommer was fourth with a 34. A three-way tie for fifth between Jim Kupfer, Dave Stauver and Bruce Grover occurred when all signed for 34.

ACE

MICHAEL BECKETT aced the par 4, fifth hole at Paradise Hills Golf Course recently. He used a 3-wood for his 235-yard shot. It was witnessed by Joey Perry, Edward Kovalsky, Brian Nemeth, Ray Crossland and Bob Spragg.

WHEELING COUNTRY CLUB

The club held its women’s championship last weekend. Vicki Wright prevailed in the event, firing a round of 76, which was nine shots clear of Valerie Piko.

UPCOMING SCRAMBLES

The Bridgeport golf team will hold a four-man scramble at Cadiz Country Club on Sunday, September 18, starting at noon. The entry fee is $60 per man includes drinks, food at the turn and dinner. The Leo Zambori Golf Benefit will be held at Belmont Hills CC on Saturday, Oct. 1. The event will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and be a 4-man best ball golf scramble. The proceeds will benefit Zambori, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The entry fee is $85per player or $340 per team and it includes lunch, dinner and door prizes. The Sistersville General Hospital will sponsor its annual benefit golf scramble on Friday, Sept. 23 at the Sistersville Country Club. Registration will open at 9 a.m.,with a shot-gun start at 10 a.m. A new car or cash will be offered for a hole-in-one on hole one. Door prizes, skill prizes, raffles, and various drawings will be held. Registration includes green fees, carts, lunch, and dinner. Team registration is $400 for a four-person team. The inaugural Belmont County Relay for Life Golf Scramble will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Belmont Hills Country Club.

The event will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Corporate and hole sponsorships are currently available. Corporate sponsorships, which include a foursome in the event, cost $500, while hole sponsorships are $100.

The entry fee to play is $320 per team and only the first 36 complete teams will be accepted.

The entry fee includes golf, cart, skins games, prizes, beverages on the course and food. Starbucks will provide coffee and pastries prior to the round and Outback will provide a dinner following the tournament in the club’s dining room.
