WJU women shine in MEC cross country

WHEELING — Wheeling Jesuit University has continually been among the best in the Mountain East Conference in both cross country and track.

The Cardinal women proved that once again last week when they captured the conference championsip, fighting off Wesleyan for the title by 11 points.

A trio of former OVAC runners helped to lead the WJU women to the top place.

Oak Glen graduate Kelsey Chambers won another conference title and was named the league’s runner of the year thanks to a time of 23:26.

Sophomore Fallon Doyle, who ran for St. John Central, finished fifth overall for a spot on the all-MEC squad. Caldwell grad Jenna Furr was 12th overall.

Ricky Moore — who is a Wheeling Park graduate — was named the conference’s coach of the year.

With the conference title wrapped up, the Cardinals will not set their sights on reaching the NCAA Division II national meet when they compete in the Atlantic Regional meet a week from Saturday.

St. John Central grad Sam Foster finished 29th overall and Bellaire grad Tyler Stewart was 31st in the meet.
