Off The Tee: Belmont Hills Match Play vs. Par winners crowned

The Match Play vs. Par event was held on April 22. There was a tie for first place between the teams of Jack Carpenter and Zach Azallion and Dave Diosi and Rob Anderson at six over par.

Third place went to Kevin Abel and Brian Delloma at 2-over par.

In the individual scoring, Diosi prevailed with a plus seven and Carpenter was second at 5-over.

The closest to the pins were won by Ernie Wilson and Carpenter.

OGLEBAY PARK GOLF CLUB

The Ye Olde Alpha Speidel event was held on April 23 with a field of 102 players taking part in the event that included medal and handicap scoring.

Winning the title was Kyle Wensel, who shot a 73. He was a shot better than Bridgeport grad Jonathan Kreiter and two shots clear of Joe Doerr and Bob Clark. Rich Humphrey was fifth in with a 76.

The balance of the top 10 included: Mike Ricci (77), Mike Wilson (77), George Templin (77), Bryan Myers (80) and Bob Potts (80).

In the hanicap scoring, Tim Hammers prevailed with a 69. Steve Keding was second with a 73. Bill Glitch, Tom Gaudino, Chris Keidasch and Frank Bland all posted rounds of 74.

The closest to the pins were won by Gary Kenamond (No. 4), Don Dewitt (No. 7), Dom Granata (No. 11) and Bob Clark (No. 15).

The longest drive was posted by Bob Potts on No. 2.

Skins were won by Paul Alig Sr. (No. 1), Mike Wilson (No. 3), Joe Doerr (No. 6), Kreiter (No. 11), Chris Yahn (No. 12) and Clark Sambuco (No. 16).

ACE

BILLY FOX of Martins Ferry recorded an ace on March 24 at BecWood Hills Golf Course. Fox aced the 300-yard, par 4, 10th hole with a driver. His fete was witnessed by Bill Fox Sr. and Dave Michaels.

MEMORIAL SCRAMBLE

The annual event will be held on Friday, May 12 at Belmont Hills Country Club. The entry fee is $75 per person or $300 per team. The cost includes golf, cart, dinner and refreshments. SHADYSIDE BOOSTER SCRAMBLE

The annual event will be held on Saturday, May 13 at Moundsville Country Club. The shotgun start is planned for 8:30 a.m. and the entry fee is $240 per team. Food and beverages will be provided. Anyone interested, may sign up at Eddie’s Barber Shop in Shadyside or by calling Bud Davis at 676-6199.

DOWLER MEMORIAL SCRAMBLE

The sixth annual Thomas R. Dowler Memorial Classic Golf Scramble will be held on Monday, May 15 at Belmont Hills Country Club. The event will begin with a shotgun start at noon. Lunch and registration actually begin at 11 a.m. Teams entered receive golf, cart, lunch, drinks on the course and dinner. Skill contests will be held and there will be two chances to win a vehicle. The proceeds generated from the event go to the Belmont College Thomas R. Dowler Fund, which will benefit students at Belmont College. For more information, contact R.J. Konkoleski at 740-699-3980.

DEPARTMENT SCRAMBLE

The sixth annual Sardis Volunteer Fire Department golf scramble will be held on Saturday, May 20 at the Fairway Riverside Golf Course in Sardis. The four-player, better ball scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The top three teams will receive cash prizes. There will also be door prizes and raffles. FLUSHING MASONIC SCRAMBLE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

The event, sponsored by the Flushing Masonic Lodge, is slated for May 20 at the Cadiz Country Club. This is an open tournament to all who wish to play, but is limited to first 22 paid teams. Registration and hot dogs set for 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $70 enter per person. There will be a steak dinner and awards/door prizes to follow in the clubhouse-beverages on the course at select locations. All proceeds will benefit two $500 scholarships to both Union Local and Harrison Central High School students

SONS OF ITALY SCRAMBLE

The 18th annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge golf scramble, which benefits Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities will be held on Monday, June 5 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The entry fee is $200 per four-man team. The fee includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner served at the Haller Shelter after the tournament.
