OFF THE TEE: Scramble to benefit Post 159 baseball planned
A new scramble is set for Saturday, May 6 at Belmont Hills Country Club.
An event to benefit the St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 baseball team, which is made up of players from all over Belmont County, will be held with the field capped at 36 teams.
The scramble will begin with a shot-gun start at 8:45 a.m. The entry fee is $80 per player, which includes golf, cart, skins game, food and beverages on the course and a post-round meal.
The post-round meal will be sponsored by Outback Steakhouse and will be served at the American Legion. Prior to the round, coffee and pastries will be provided by Starbucks.
Corporate sponsorships are available for $500, which includes one team entry as well as the company’s logo placed on the billboard. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each.
All proceeds will go to the Post 159 baseball team, which experienced one of its finest seasons last summer. It won the district tournament for the second consecutive season and took part in the state tournament in Lancaster. It also became the first Ohio Valley team to win the 19U bracket the giant Beast of the East held over Fourth of July weekend.
To enter a team, email Randy Mellott at rando13@comcast.net. If you’re interesting in sponsoring the event, please contact Post 159 head coach Mike Muklewicz at 740-359-7272.
OFF THE TEE IS BACK
Welcome to golf season, 2017!
Well, it’s been raining most of the weekend, so the opportunities to get onto the links have been minimal.
The winter was relatively mild, which tells me the courses should be in relatively good shape. Once again this spring and summer, The Times Leader will publish its Off The Tee golf column weekly in this space.
And if you’re having an event, playing a tournament, know of someone working in golf or anything that’s related to the sport, feel free to drop me an email to the address at the bottom of this column. We’ll be glad to publish all things golf all summer long.
