OFF THE TEE: St. C. Post 159 baseball scramble winners announced
The St. Clairsville American Legion Post 159 baseball team advanced to its second consecutive state tournament last summer.
Mike Muklewicz and his squad begin their season next month, but began the process of working toward the season last weekend when they held their inaugural golf scramble at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville.
The event attracted a large field. Winning the championship was the team of Jim Baugh, Chad Baugh, Tommy Baugh and Ryan Clark. They shot a 12-under, 60. J.C. Thrash, Jeff Thrash and Zach Azallion finished with a 61, while Brian Gay, Adam Gay, Eric Gay and Jerry Witzberger signed for a 66. Fourth place went to the team of Paul Foster, Dave Stack, Don Guthrie and Bryan Woodford.
Five skins were recorded during the course of the tournament and four of those went to the Baugh/Clark squad. The other went to Mike McDonald, Seth Sleime, Clint Stoehr and Casey Coyne.
Closest to the pin prizes went to James Mahute (No. 2), Clark (No. 11) and Mike Chema (No. 14). The longest drive on the 14th hole was posted by Seth Sleime. Joe Barker won the 50-50 raffle.
OGLEBAY PARK GOLF CLUB
Last Sunday, the Dubie Dailer Memorial Tournament was held. The event, which is sponsored by Generations Restaurant & Pub attracted an impressive field of 132 players for the event that saw players competing in a two-man scramble format.
The duo of Bryan Myers and Joe Doerr prevailed with a 61. They were three shots clear of Brook Garrison and Tim Gilligan, who finished with a 64. Mike Wetzel and Joe Grilli also posted a 65 as did Tom Gaudino and Greg Gaudino.
Four teams signed for rounds of 67. They included Jonathan Kreiter and Cody Anderson; Shane Livingston and Jared Livingston; Jim Dailer and Bill Glitch; Mike Potts and Bob Potts.
In the handicap division, Mike Potts and Ray Hornick won with a 60. They were a shot better than Gary Yahn and Chris Yahn as well as Tim Pelley and Rich Humphrey. Mike Mazure and B.J. Widmer signed for a 62. Mark Maguire Sr. and Eric Stakem as well as Robbie Evans and Doug Miller all posted a round of 64.
Five closest to the pins were awarded. They went to Rich Humphrey (No. 2), Mike Neal (No. 5), Joe Hartman (No. 7), Matt Klug (No. 10) and Todd Nickoles (No. 13). Skins were recorded by Pelley and Humphrey (No. 7) and Dave Sims and Jim Bittengle (No. 16).
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The Elm Grove Eagles #1891 held its annual event with medal and handicap scoring on May 3. Roger Kupfer prevailed by shots with a round of 34. George Melnik fired a 36 and Mike DeSantis was third with a 36. Rich Colley (38) was fourth and Dick Moore (38) and Doug Miller (38) tied for fifth.
In the handicap scoring, Mike Crow prevailed with a 32, while Don Dewitt was second with a 33. Dave Stauver posted a 34 and Tony Campbell signed for a 35. Finishing with a 36 and tying for fifth were Jim Ennis, Paul Carney, Jim Druschel and Mike Mazure.

Bridgeport resident Ed Laipple aced the 150-yard, 14th hole at BecWood Hills on April 14. Laipple used an 8-iron on the par 3 hole. His shot was witnessed by Tim Ciardelli, B. Wilt and Terry Morrison.

DOWLER MEMORIAL SCRAMBLE
The sixth annual Thomas R. Dowler Memorial Classic Golf Scramble will be held on Monday, May 15 at Belmont Hills Country Club. The event will begin with a shotgun start at noon. Lunch and registration actually begin at 11 a.m. Teams entered receive golf, cart, lunch, drinks on the course and dinner. Skill contests will be held and there will be two chances to win a vehicle. The proceeds generated from the event go to the Belmont College Thomas R. Dowler Fund, which will benefit students at Belmont College.

SARDIS FIRE DEPARTMENT SCRAMBLE
The sixth annual Sardis Volunteer Fire Department golf scramble will be held on Saturday, May 20 at the Fairway Riverside Golf Course in Sardis. The four-player, better ball scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The top three teams will receive cash prizes. There will also be door prizes and raffles. FLUSHING MASONIC SCRAMBLE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The event, sponsored by the Flushing Masonic Lodge, is slated for May 20 at the Cadiz Country Club. This is an open tournament to all who wish to play, but is limited to first 22 paid teams. Registration and hot dogs set for 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $70 enter per person. There will be a steak dinner and awards/door prizes to follow in the clubhouse-beverages on the course at select locations. All proceeds will benefit two $500 scholarships to both Union Local and Harrison Central High School students

CARDINAL ATHLETIC CLUB SCRAMBLE
The 28th Annual Cardinal Athletic Club Golf Scramble is set for Thursday, June 1, and features a Lyle’s Auto Hole-in-One car giveaway. The CAC Scramble will have a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start on the Palmer Course at the Oglebay Resort’s Speidel Golf Complex. Reservations are still being taken for the golf and dinner event. The day’s participation is $100 per person and $400 for a foursome with the field being limited to 128 players/32 foursomes. Hole sponsors are also $100. The WJU athletic support event features many golfer prizes, including the chance at winning a car from Lyle’s Auto of Follansbee, W.Va., with a hole-in-one on the designated hole. All Par Three holes will have prizes. There are also special prizes for women. Proceeds benefit Cardinal Athletic Club for athletic scholarships. The 18th annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge golf scramble, which benefits Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities will be held on Monday, June 5 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The entry fee is $200 per four-man team. The fee includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner served at the Haller Shelter after the tournament.
