OFF THE TEE: Wheeling Park Golf Club holds two more tourneys
The Doris L. Kinney Memorial Golf Scramble was held, using a bestball scramble format. The duo of Art Lightner and Roger Kupfer prevailed with a 62. That was two shots better than Gary Mercer and Chris Bommer. Robbie Evans and Doug Miller were third with a 68. Nick Klamut and Bob McLaughlin fired a 70.
The handicap portion of the event was captured by Jim Ennis and Bob Green posted a 54 to win by three shots over Mike Mazure and George Melnik as well as Tony Campbell and Tom Mitchell. Bill Kerns and Josh Green were fourth with a 61.
The Country Pride Restaurant event was held on May 10. Kupfer was the champion of the medal division with a 32. Rich Colley had a 36 to finish second. Bommer was third with a 36, while Green was fourth with a 39. Mike DeSantis and Bruno Decrease had a 39.
In the handicap portion of the event, Russ Travis was the winner with a 30. Bruce Melnik posted a 32. Mike Perring had a 34, which was good enough for third. Jim Ennis was fourth with a 34 and Dick Moore and Jim Druschel tied for fifth with a 34.
The Wharton’s Auto Service event was held last week. Melnik prevailed with a 34. He won by virtue of a scorecard playoff as Rich Colley also signed for a 34. Jerry Yuhase, Mark Maguire and Larry Goodnight all signed for 37s and rounded out the top five. In the handicap scoring portion of the event, Jim Ennis finished with a 31 for the one-shot win over John Yocum. Bruce Melnik was third with a 32, while Joe Wurtzbacher and Bob Hicks rounded out the top five, also posting a round of 33.

JERRY ERNEST aced the 93-yard fifth hole at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course last Sunday. He used a pitching wedge for his feat, which was witnessed by Jim Dailer and Mark Maguire.
JUNIOR TOURNAMENT
The annual Salt Fork Junior Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at Salt Fork State Park Golf Course, which is located just outside of Cambridge.
There will be three age divisions for boys (17-18, 15-16, 13-14) and girls (16-18, 13-15) with the awards to the three boys finishers and top two female finishers. The entry fee is $30 with checks payable to the Meadowbrook Golf Boosters and the cost is $20 for those with Salt Fork memberships. Deadline to enter is Friday, June 9. CARDINAL ATHLETIC CLUB SCRAMBLE
The 28th Annual Cardinal Athletic Club Golf Scramble is set for Thursday, June 1, and features a Lyle’s Auto Hole-in-One car giveaway. The CAC Scramble will have a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start on the Palmer Course at the Oglebay Resort’s Speidel Golf Complex. Reservations are still being taken for the golf and dinner event. The day’s participation is $100 per person and $400 for a foursome with the field being limited to 128 players/32 foursomes. Hole sponsors are also $100. The WJU athletic support event features many golfer prizes, including the chance at winning a car from Lyle’s Auto of Follansbee, W.Va., with a hole-in-one on the designated hole. All Par Three holes will have prizes. There are also special prizes for women. Proceeds benefit Cardinal Athletic Club for athletic scholarships. SONS OF ITALY SCRAMBLE
The 18th annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge golf scramble, which benefits Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities will be held on Monday, June 5 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The entry fee is $200 per four-man team. The fee includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner served at the Haller Shelter after the tournament. The American Legion , Bellaire Post 52, Tom Donahue Memorial Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Bec-Wood Golf Course in Rayland. The entry fee is $60 per player or $240 per team and it needs to be paid by June 5. Bellaire TD Club Scramble Scheduled
The Bellaire Touchdown Club will hold its 11th annual golf outing on June 24 at Fairway River Links. The entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team.
