Belmont Hills C.C. hosts successful holiday event

The Belmont Hills Country Club held its annual Memorial Day event with a full field of participants.

Winning the event was the team that consisted of Zach Azallion, Dick Cope, Jake Olsavsky and Donna Melchiori, firing a round of 63.

There was a three-way tie for second at a round of 64. Those teams included Doug Brannon, John Sambuco, Ernie Wilson and Mary Vota. Another team will be Marlin Harper, Jack Carpenter, John Vota and Pat Estadt. The third team consisted of John Jeffries, Ron Presutti, Lisa Simon and Nick Karras.

The closest to the pin went to Bryan Woodford and Bill Sokolowski was second.

WHEELING COUNTRY CLUB

The club held its annual Memorial Day Derby on Monday, utilizing a 2 best balls of four format. The winning team consisted of Justin Ferrell, Brad Archer, Mark Stanley and Jim Buch. It shot a 21 under.

Finishing second — a shot back — was the team of Joe Barki, Brian Komorowski, Barry Christmas and Dave Torrance. At 19 under and in third place was the team of Matt Ball, Jim Brinsky, Rico Simonetti and Greg Caro.

The longest putt of the round went to Matt Keding on No. 1. The closts to the pin on No. 3 went to Paul Irby and the closest to the pin on No. 9 was won by Marcus Saludes.

The club also held its Member-Member Qualifying rounds in recent weeks.

Advancing on to the actual tournament were the following teams:

Round-one matches will be on Sunday, June 18.

WHEELING ELKS JUNIOR GOLF

The annual Wheeling Elks Lodge Junior Golf Tournament is slated for Wednesday, June 21 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. It is open to boys and girls from both Ohio and West Virginia. There are three age groups for both genders, including 10-12, 13-15 and 16-18.

Registration for the event will begin at 7 a.m. and there’s a players’ meeting scheduled for 7:50 a.m. with a shotgun start planned for 8:30. There is no entry fee to play. Entries must be received by Thursday, June 17.

Following the round, there will be food, refreshments and an awards presentation at the Haller Shelter. The top three finishers in each age group will receive an award.

SALT FORK JUNIOR

TOURNAMENT

The annual Salt Fork Junior Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at Salt Fork State Park Golf Course, which is located just outside of Cambridge.

There will be three age divisions for boys (17-18, 15-16, 13-14) and girls (16-18, 13-15) with the awards to the three boys finishers and top two female finishers. The entry fee is $30 with checks payable to the Meadowbrook Golf Boosters and the cost is $20 for those with Salt Fork memberships. Deadline to enter is Friday, June 9. SONS OF ITALY

The 18th annual Sons of Italy Bellaire Lodge golf scramble, which benefits Alzheimers & Cooley’s Anemia Charities will be held on Monday, June 5 with a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The entry fee is $200 per four-man team. The fee includes golf, cart, refreshments on the course and dinner served at the Haller Shelter after the tournament. The top three teams will receive cash prizes and the event is limited to the first 36 teams. To register, contact Phil Pata at 740-695-0691.

Valley Hospice Scramble

The 10th annual Valley Hospice golf scramble is slated for Monday, June 12 at the Steubenville Country Club.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; followed by a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. Lunch and dinner will be provided, as well as drinks throughout the day.

The top three teams will win cash prizes; first place, $500; second place, $300; third place, $200. Prizes will also be awarded for longest putt and longest drive. Teams will have the opportunity to participate in a putting contest, win raffle prizes, and try their luck at a hole-in-one contest for a new car.

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Valley Hospice Whispered Wishes Program, a program that grants end-of-life wishes to Valley Hospice patients.

TOM DONAHUE MEMORIAL

The American Legion, Bellaire Post 52, Tom Donahue Memorial Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Bec-Wood Golf Course in Rayland. The entry fee is $60 per player or $240 per team and it needs to be paid by June 5.
