Salt Fork Junior Tournament Winners Announced

The annual Salt Fork Junior Golf Tournament was held last Tuesday at Salt Fork State Park Golf Course, which played at par 71 for the event.

Winning the title in the 17-18 year old division was Trey Singleton from Meadowbrook. He fired a 76 and was three shots clear of Jacob Feldner and five shots better than than former Meadowbrook standout Devin Webster.

Clint Heavilin, who played at Harrison Central, was the highest finishing area player with a round of 92.

In the 16-18 year old female division, Garaway’s Jocelyn Troyer prevailed with an 82. Wheeling Park’s Lydia Simon was the highest area player with an 89.

In the 15-16 year old division, Barnesville’s Payne Johnson and Harrison Central’s Cameron McIntosh led the area players with a round of 90. Martins Ferry’s Luke Krol fired a 91 and St. Clairsville’s Jacob Jeffries checked in with a 92.

In the 13-15 year old female group, Buckeye Trail’s Rylie Smith was second with a 96. In the 13-14 year old male division, Harrison Central’s Sam Santille was second with an 88. St. Clairsville’s Will Foster shot a 95.

BELMONT HILLS RESULTS

The 2017 Belmont 2 man was held last weekend on the Par 72 layout.

The team of Dave Murphy and Kelvin Girty won the First Flight on both Saturday and Sunday with 12 points and 12.5 points, respectively. Jason Balcar and Bob Bethel finished with 11.5 to finish second on Saturday, while Jason Newton and Clay Wood were the Sunday runnerups with a score of 12.

In the second flight, Larry Gertcher and The Tim Conway finished first on Saturday with an 11, while Jack Carpenter and Bill Sokolowski as well as Lou DiPaolo and John Vota tied for the win on Sunday with 12.5 points. DiPaolo and Vota were second on Saturday en route to finishing second overall.

There was also a closest to the pin held. John Jeffries and Doug Brannon were first and second, respectively.

WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB

The Wakim’s Bar event was held on June 7. Bill Fox captured the event’s crown with a round of 33. He was a shot better than Roger Kupfer and three shots clear of Mike Crow, Chris Bommer and Dick Moore, who rounded out the top five.

In the handicap scoring portion of the event, Bruce Melnik shot a 30, which was two shots better than Bob Green. George Melnik was third with a 32, while Jerry Daugherty was fourth with a 33. Russ Travis, Dave Stauver and Joe Wurtzbacher tied for fifth with a score of 33.

One week ago, the City Wide Insurance event was held with a Bestball/scramble format. Jim Ennis and Bob Green teamed for the victory, firing a round of 65. Gary Mercer and Bommer finished second with a 65. Nick Klamut and Bob McLaughlin finished third with a 68. Rounding out the top five were the duos of Rich Colley and Paul Carney and Dick Moore and Dave Stauver. Both duos finished with scores of 69.

In the handicap scoring, Russ Travis and Jerry Daugherty prevailed by a shot over Paul Alig Sr. and Paul Alig Jr. with a round of 58. Steve Usenick and Joe Wurtzbacher were third at 59.

SONS OF ITALY SCRAMBLE

The annual event was held on June 5 at Oglebay Park’s Crispin Course. The winning team, which finished with an 11-under par, was comprised of Tim Ciaredelli, Chuck Shubat, Bill Kahl and Jeremy Peloach. The second-place team, which posted a score of 60, consisted of Duane Gulla, Lou Di Paolo, Paul Gulla and Jay Davis. Third place went to Marc Donaway, Jimmy Howes, Jason Wiggins and Gerry Trumble. That squad finished with a 68.

All proceeds from the event went to Alzheimers and Cooleys Anemia Charities.
